Governor Tom's Message!

Good morning from sunny Florida! Michele and I took a short vacation to Florida to visit friends. I hope that you all had a great Labor Day weekend!
Hurricane Harvey Relief
The devastation from Hurricane Harvey is something that we can all help make a difference. Rotary has several initiatives that you can chose from to help.  See them below:
Hurricane Harvey is predicted to be the costliest natural disaster in the history of the U.S., with a damage cost exceeding Hurricanes Sandy and Katrina. AccuWeather predicts that the damage cost will hit $160 billion.
Earlier this morning, RI Presidential Aide Don Mebus and Past RI Director Greg Podd hosted a strategy conference call with governors from Districts 5930, 5840,5890,5910 and 6200 in Texas and Louisiana to develop a cohesive response. A Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Donor Advised Fund (DAF) has been established by Greg Podd and President Elect Barry Rassin through The Rotary Foundation to collect relief contributions. Don and Greg are working with leaders from the affected districts to create a process for disbursing DAF funds to their respective district foundations or local 501c3 organizations to support local relief efforts. If you would like to help please go to the following link:
If you would like to make a contribution by credit card please go to the following link: link:
The Name of the DAF (Donor Advised Fund) is The Gulf Coast Disaster Relief Donor Advised Fund. The account number of the DAF is 608.
Shelter Box, Rotary's partner for disaster relief, is providing tents for use as privacy tents to be pitched within the convention centers housing families that have been evacuated. Please direct inquiring Rotarians to the web story on  for the most up-to-date information or to contact RI by writing to
In addition, we are seeking donations so we can send a truck loaded with supplies in the next few weeks.  See attached document.

Reaching for the Stars!
Tri County Rotary Club Charter Ceremony
Historic Event that hasn’t happened in 10 years…. Mark your calendar for the Tri-County Rotary Club's Charter Celebration, which is Thursday, October 12th at Merighi's Savoy Inn in East Vineland. The theme for the celebration is "Reaching for the Stars", which correlates to the star, named “The Fletch” located in the Sagittarius constellation, that they presented to me during their Club Visit.
All District Clubs are required by the District's Rules of Procedures to buy tickets equal to 10% of their membership to support the Tri-County Rotary Club at their Charter Celebration.
Tickets are only $45.00 per person. Past Rotary International Treasurer Mike Colasurdo, Sr. is our special Guest Speaker. Michele and I look forward to seeing you there.
Rotary Leadership Institute
The Rotary Leadership Institute’s next program will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Indian Cultural Center in Voorhees.  The price is $90.00.  This is a great way to learn about Rotary from fellow Rotarians.  The facilitators are all Rotarians and make the learning process fun and interactive. Remember…. if your club is sending a Rotarian to take a Part II or Part III course, the District will pay for a second Rotarian to go to this training program.  The club or the individual must pay and submit a receipt for payment.
Vineland Rotary Club
Governor's Visit!
I had the opportunity to make a club visit to Vineland last week. I was very happy to that they had both the Canadian Flag and National Anthem to honor my wife's French-Canadian heritage. Thank you very much for the great honor. They also reminded me that we live in this wonderful Garden State by offering me a basket of locally grown, farm fresh food....and a bottle of locally made wine!  Thank You Vineland Rotary Club!
District Training at Cumberland County College
Please mark your calendar for September 23rd, we will be having a District Training Session on Membership, Foundation and Public Image at Cumberland County College from 8:00 am to 12Noon. Registration starts at 7:30am.  There are many new things to show you that day. Please sign up on the District Website. The cost is only $10.00.
This is the 30th year of women in Rotary. To commemorate this, we are having a joint district celebration with District 7450 on November 7, 2017, at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield PA.
We will honor five women from our district who best represent the spirit of Rotary. The nominating forms will be sent out shortly to all clubs. So, if you know someone that we should recognize please submit their name to us. There will be lots of opportunities to support this event through sponsorships and the purchase of tickets to the dinner.
We are also very pleased to announce that Past RI Vice President Jennifer Jones, and Current RI Vice President Dean Rohrs will be the guest speakers at this event. There will be much more on this event in the coming weeks.
Rotary Minute
“Real genuine friendship and the laws governing friendships provide the truest
basis for all forms of enterprise. If Rotary can materially contribute to the
development of friendship between individuals, businesses, professions, and
nations, and if the individual is willing to make friendship the basis of his job or
vocation, then we have an ideal of service being applied in ways that should make
all of us happy.”
